Dealing From Top of the Desk

"I know God put me in this world to make Dawna happy" JIM GILBERT

You won't find many strangers going out of their way to hug a used car dealer.

In Fredericton, NB it happens anywhere from 20 to 30 times a day.

But, there aren't many business owners like Jim Gilbert, who unabashedly credits his success in life and business to his wife of 30 years - and learning from motivational tapes and books.

The recession seems to have skipped right on by Jim Gilbert's Wheels & Deals as the Capital City dealership has hired seven more employees in the last several months. Sales have also climbed for nine consecutive years, ever since Jim experienced an epiphany of sorts when he realized he was spending more time talking, wishing and dreaming about what he was going to do than actually doing it.

Then he listened to a motivational tape from Zig Ziglar.

The message inspired Jim to make changes.

Big ones.

At both work and home.

Rather than playing the "blame game" when things didn't go his way, Jim became 100% accountable for himself and his business.

He started to eat better. Began exercising daily and shed 30 pounds. He also became a "learning sponge", soaking up everything he could get his hands on about being a successful entrepreneur.

Since September of 2006, Jim Gilbert has been known as "Canada's Huggable Car Dealer". Hugs are a part of the everyday culture at his Northside dealership and they come in many forms with free popcorn, branded teddy bears and bottled water Jim gives to his customers.

Some might say that Jim's business is an extension of the love affair he had enjoyed with Dawna since they first met in 1978. They were married eight months later.

Even today, they are rarely apart. Office desks are side by side. Their days start very early, with Jim and Dawna often rising before 5 a.m. to exercise and watch motivational DVDs. In some respects, it's only natural that Jim would want to create his own internet television show to share some of the good things that are happening all around us each day.

Today, on TSB, we go up close and personal with Canada's Huggable Car Dealer ... Jim Gilbert!

"Motorvationally Speaking", on CHCD TV, is a weekly, internet-based show focused on people who embrace the power of positive thinking. The guests may not always be famous, but they are always enlightening, and each one of them has an interesting story to tell. Your comments and suggestions are always welcome as we do what we can to inspire, educate and motivate.

"Love seems the swiftest but it is the slowest of all growths. No man or woman really knows what perfect love is until they have been married a quarter of a century"

I just want to confirm that Jim Gilbert is the "real deal". It is a rare thing to meet a person that is so congruent in all areas of their life.

Jim is definitely that, and more. He cares about his family, his friends, his community, his customers, and his business.

Being successful in all these areas is his goal and he works hard at it on a daily basis.

Well done Jim! Congratulations on your multiple successes!
